Basic treatment modalities for any cancer include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and targeted therapy- either alone or in some combination thereof. The bar for what we should strive for both improving the cure rates in curable cancers as well as enhancing life expectancy in incurable cancers is being raised routinely. This has been made possible by the evolution of newer surgical techniques, newer Radiation therapy techniques and newer targeted agents in conjunction with chemotherapy. Treating Cancer is a teamwork like very few other medical specialties- A constant communication between the Surgeon, Pathologist, Medical Oncologist, Radiation Oncologist and the ancillary paramedical staff is essential.
