Dr Sapna Nangia, graduate of Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune and postgraduate in Radiotherapy from Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, has joined Fortis International Oncology Centre, Noida, as Chief Radiation Oncologist. Prior to this, she has worked in Batra Hospital & Medical Research Centre, New Delhi as Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncology. During her stint in Batra Hospital, Dr Nangia has established the Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) program, and has acquired vast experience in the use of IMRT; she has published data in the use of IMRT for cancers of the head & neck and prostate. IMRT is a specialised technique that minimises the side effects of radiotherapy while allowing the tumour to be treated accurately.
Dr Nangia also has expertise in Brachytherapy for various disease sites including gynaecological cancers, soft tissue sarcomas and cancer of the tongue. She also has a keen interest in teaching and has served as faculty in teaching programs conducted by the Indian College of Radiation Oncologists and Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai besides contributing towards the DNB Radiotherapy program of Batra Hospital. Dr. Nangia is a member of the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROI) and the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO) and did a short stint with the Army Medical Corps prior to postgraduation. She has been trained under the aegis of ESTRO in the fields of target volume determination and molecular oncology and has been an observer at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre New York, USA and the Moores Cancer Centre, UCSD San Diego, USA.
